There are many ways for players to earn XP and you can adjust exactly how much XP is gained from each aspect. Below are the many things that players can earn XP from and how to adjust these options. These settings are the base amount a player will earn BEFORE any bonuses are applied such as level bonus, night bonus, teams, or any other type of bonus you have setup.

  • Kills: Each killable entity within the game can award XP. Adjust these options to set how much a player will earn per kill.
    • Note: The General labels (General Scientists/General Dweller) are for entities of that type that are not detected as a specific type and will give that amount of XP instead. Example: If a player kills a Dweller and it does not detect it as a Tunnel Dweller or Underwater Dweller then it will award General Dweller XP amount.
    • Note: There is a known issue with Patrol Helicopter not awarding XP to players for kills as it has trouble detecting who the last known attacker was. If the Helicopter explodes from damage without being hit a final time the system will not know who attacked it and will not award XP. This issue is still being worked on.
    • Allow AutoTurret XP: This option is for awarding XP to the owner of an AutoTurret. If enabled, the owner of a turret will gain XP for each entity killed by their turret whether it's a player, NPC, animal, or other type of entity. This is NOT the amount of XP a player will earn if they destroy a turret.

  • Gathering and Looting: Gathering anything within the game or looting boxes, barrels, and other materials will give the player XP. You can adjust these options to set how much XP is earned each time a player performs these actions. You can adjust how much XP is earned when upgrading structures based on the upgrade materials as well.
    • Note: There are options to reduce the amount of XP based on the tool players are using such as chainsaws and jackhammers. You can disable these entirely or reduce the chance of gaining XP by adjusting the Tool XP Chance, Tool XP Percent, and Disable Power Tool Gains options.
    • Tool XP Chance: This is the percentage % chance the player will earn XP when using a tool such as a chainsaw or jackhammer.
    • Tool XP Percent: This is the percentage % of XP the player will earn based on the total amount they could earn if not using a tool such as a chainsaw or jackhammer.
    • Note: You can also make it where players only earn XP when they complete the gathering of trees and ores with the "Only Give XP At End" option.

  • Crafting and Building: Crafting items or building bases also awards XP to players. Adjust these settings to change the amount players earn when performing these actions.
    • Note: There are several settings here to help reduce exploits when using other mods such as BuildingGrades which allows players to upgrade their entire base at one time or crafting multiple items at once. These settings will prevent players from earning XP per upgraded building piece by adding a delay to when the XP is awarded. Same goes for crafting multiple items at one time by delaying the time XP is awarded when items are crafted.
    • Require Building Privlidge: (added in v1.7.0) This option will prevent XP from building structures unless a player has privlidges or authorization with a cupboard nearby. This will help prevent players from twig structure spamming all over the map for XP.

  • Missions: Players can earn XP by completing missions throughout the world. Adjust these setting to change the amount of XP awarded when a player completes these mission. You can also have players lose XP for failed missions if they do not complete the active mission they are doing.

  • XP Boost Settings: (xperience.xpboost permission required)
    • NOTE: This is a permission based XP boost option that gives players with this permission a bonus XP amount each time they gain XP. You must assign this permission to players or a group for them to receive the boost.
    • Enable XP Boost Permission: Enables or Disables the XP boost for players or groups with this permission.
    • XP Boost Amount: This is the amount in percentage % added to the XP gain each time a player earns XP.
    • Boost Order (Before other boosts or after): This controls when the XP boost is applied. If set to "first" then the boost is applied before all other boosts are applied and then other boosts add onto it. If set to "last" then the boost is applied after all other boosts and the amount of XP the player receives will be based on the total amount calculated from all sources.

  • Team XP: You can allow team members to gain a percentage of XP from their team members within a certain range. This makes teamwork more enjoyable and gets your players to work together. You can also setup whether or not team members lose XP when another team member does.
    • Team XP Gain: This is the amount of XP all team members within range will earn each time another team member gains XP. Using the example settings above, If a player gains 10 XP then all team members within range will earn 10% of that and get 1 XP.
    • Team XP Loss: This is the amount of XP all team members within range will lose if a team member looses XP. Using the example settings above, if a player loses 20 XP then all team members within range will lose 5% of that and loose 1 XP.
    • Team Distance (feet): This is the maximum distance a team member can be from another to gain or lose XP when that team member does.

  • Night Boost: You can setup times where players gain more XP during the night. These allow players to earn more as they endure the dangers of the night instead of hiding out within their bases.
    • Start Time: The time of day when the night bonus starts. Based on 24 hour time format. (19 = 7:00pm)
    • End Time: The time of day when the night bonus ends. Based on 24 hour time format. (5 = 5:00am)
    • Bonus Percent %: The percentage % amount of XP added to any XP gains
    • Enable Night Skills: This option is ONLY for Hunter skills that awards a bonus damage to entities when a player has a Hunter level of 1 or higher during the night bonus time frame. This stacks on the Hunter's animal damage bonus ability if enabled.

  • XP Reductions: You can setup whether or not players lose XP for deaths or even suicides. This helps prevent players from using the suicide option as much.
    • Suicide Reduction Amount: This is the base amount of XP a player will lose when using the suicide option. This will be increased based on the current level of the player (suicide reduction x level)
    • Death Reduction: This is the base amount of XP a player will lose each time they die. This will be increased based on the current level of the player (death reduction x level)
